The Eastern and Central Africa region is a vast and versatile region, both geographically as well as geologically. From the Afar Depression( Danakil Depression) in Ethiopia, the Rift Valley system enters into Africa. The snow peaks of Mt. Kenya and the Virunga in between the DRC and Rwanda as well as Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, a dormant volcano whose eruptions millions of years ago created the famous flat topographies of the Amboseli Tsavo ecosystem. The Rift systems in East Africa giving rise to the fertile lands occupied by most of the diverse cultural communities found in this region.
The finger-like freshwater lakes of Tanganyika, Malawi, and Kivu bring versatility to the region’s fishermen communities as well as the farmers of the area. From the open Savannah grasslands of Masai Mara, Serengeti, Tarangire and Ngorongoro crater to arid and semi-arid rangelands of Laikipia and Samburu in Kenya, these ecosystems have given rise to Wildlife Conservation, by the creation of Game Reserves and National Parks as well as Community managed Wildlife Protected areas. All being efforts to conserve and preserve these African Heritages.

As you watch the cats stalk an innocent antelope, and you know that life will be lost so that another one can survive, your entire system is intoned to the heartbeat of the earth and the universe and you become in tune with the rhythm of life just for being in AFRICA!
